Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for reverant reflection
On our many blessings and loving connections
A time to remember loved ones that have died
And those still here that have made us laugh and cry

A time we thank God for loving us and giving us life
For the good, the bad, the happiness and strife
For the busy times and the moments of peace
For laughter and joy where worry can cease

A time for  forgiving those who hurt us along the way
For the outpouring of love we can never repay
For those we have loved but it wasn't returned
For friendships that last and are never earned

A time to enjoy a vacation that is well deserved
For relaxing in a motel room you've reserved
A time for sharing a meal with family friends
For being able to retreat at dinner's end

The first Thanksgiving was to celebrate survival
That hasn't changed since those first arrivals
Our country still struggles to keep justice alive
God willing, this Thanksgiving will see tolerence survive

So before you dig into the turkey and all of the stuffing
Be mindful of those in need and have nothing
Our ancestors were once strangers in a strange land
It's now up to us to extend a helping hand
