The White Sou'easter

A wintry white Sou'easter is surrounding us today
Blustry winds and powder fine snow thrown into the fray
Snow, like smoke, curls when the wind blows harsh and cold
Open snow dunes churn like ocean waves that crash and unfold

Brush the crystals one way, they blow and rebound
Because they are powdery and fluffy they make no sound
Our backyard coating is white with a hint of dry oak leaf
Little snow dunes drift along the back fence and then flee

The wind past midday still sings loud and clear through the chimes
The snow showers are lighter but sting my face at the same time
It's been quiet and cozy inside our house, doing laundry and writing
We retrieved only the mail and trash barrels, the wind was still biting

We have all the modern conveniences of heat, cable and power
They don't prevent the wind and snow falling by the hour
They keep us warm and entertained and glad to be safe and sound
It's good during a white Sou'easter to be warm and homebound.
