Passionate Easter

Easter is approaching fast
Palm Sunday, a day of passion, has past
Spring has started but snow now threatens
I feel unmoved and filled with introspection

21 centuries ago Jesus, You were arrested
What scared them so, why were You rejected?
You were beaten down, bloodied, and betrayed
Why is that hate still here to this day?

Your rising is our redemption
That is what's holy, this deserves mention!
That should be what the church celebrates
Not pastel eggs, candy or cake

Your Crucifixion was horrific and traumatic
Your love at the end was explosive and dramatic
These things make me feel empathy, I can relate
We need to give voice to God's love and less to our hate

God loves us and sent His Son
So put down your swords and your guns
Why is love so hard to digest?
Commit to God's love and disregard the rest

This should be a season of redemption
It is portrayed on TV with too much commercial intervention
I appreciate the attempt to mainstream Jesus
But fewer disruptions would really be glorious

Consider our political scene, it's really obscene
The name calling and fighting is just plain mean
Have we really come so far from that glorious resurrection?
Are our morals so corrupt that we don't see the disconnection?

If you claim to be Christian then start acting like one
Is Christianity dropped when it stops being fun?
When the new shoes, dresses and suits are done
And life settles down do we still listen to God's Son?

If your very life depended on what you believe
Would you save yourself and try to deceive,
Or would you stand for the truth and die for your faith?
Death for your belief in Christ would be no disgrace

So in this season of Springtime and light
When all around you there can be seen new life
Remember the One Who lovingly gave His life for you
Redemption is for all who believe, not just a few

Rejoice and Happy Easter to you!
