6th Grade Art Class on a Friday

When you are a substitute teacher in a 6th grade art class on a Friday, it's hard to keep order
Art class is looked on by the students as a time for fun and disorder.
Even though you give many reminders that their work will be graded
It just tends to sink into the din of chatter and attitudes so jaded.

When checking their work I was amazed
Most of them had understood the directions and they obeyed
Beautiful colors and patterns and shapes galore!
There were very creative and talented students setting the bar high for all.

If only the noise had a volume control
I know that I wouldn't be able to create unless the voices were low.
All day the sound went from zero to ten and down again
I was glad when classes were finished so quiet moments could begin

I wish I could say it was a glorious day
But I had six classes of 6th graders, what more can I say?
Taken individually they are funny and interesting kids
But putting them in an art room on a Friday is like popping popcorn without a lid!!!
