Shatter

Shattering glass with an object solid and at hand
Dissipates frustrations as it explodes into a million little pieces
A solid ball of fury projecting all of its energy into a single pane of glass
As the pieces crack and fall away so too does hate and frustration

Sweeping away the pieces you begin to breathe again
When thrown in the trash your tensions go with them
You need new glass to protect your pictures, your home
A fresh new beginning and it is done swiftly and calmly

Glass shattering randomly somewhere in your home
Shatters your peace of mind and your nerves
Is a stranger forcing his way in? What fell off the wall?
Is on of my treasures broken? Are my memories still safe?

You pick up the jagged shards and wipe away tears of loss
Carefully and painstakingly you clean up the glass slivers
Can't risk a glass splinter going into your hands or feet
You ask why and no answer is forthcoming

A single pane of glass shattering
Makes the same sound irregardless of the rhyme or reason
It brings relief at one point in time and fear at another
Sometimes we control the shattering and sometimes we are the shattered

If I do the shattering then I'm in control
If someone or else does the shattering then I'm vulnerable
It's no fun being a target or feeling exposed
I need to think before I shatter, the people who care about me matter

The people the closest can get cracked and fall away
No relief there, just pain and isolation
Cleaning up emotional messes is hard and most times leaves scars
It takes a whole lot of praying for God to heal and keep me on my guard

So shatter that single pane of glass if you must
I for one live by the slogan, "In God We Trust"
The damage we cause some may say is just
But the life that we shatter may well be our own
