You can tell a lot about men by the cut of their hair
Their age, their jobs, their inner flair
Are they straight shooters or are they fun and daring,
Seen not just in their clothes but the hair they are wearing
The desk jocky, the executive, the weekend jock
Short, straight, with a bit of a wave or curl on top
The armed service men, Army, Navy, Marines and such
Buzz cut, close cut. Long, curley or wavy not so much
As a mom I watched as my adult son got a buzz cut for the Navy
Gone was the child with auburn hair so wavy
Gone were the mohawks, the long hair, and rebellious attitudes
Replaced by love of God, family, and country, courage, and fortitude
It's hard to imagine this young man was once our little boy
Was it really so long ago that he was playing with toys
Riding on his dad's shoulders, seeing how high he could reach
Swimming in the town pool, body surfing at the beach?
Yes, as I watched my son sitting with eyes forward in the salon chair
I saw a young man materialize in front of me almost out of thin air
The happy child, the awkward tween, and the angry teen are but a memory
I was seeing for the first time the young man that other people see
A handsome young man to be proud of, it makes me misty eyed
To know our Superman has come home briefly then off again he will fly
His goal is to join the Navy, a noble ambition indeed
He'll leave behind a loving family to serve his country's needs
You can tell a lot about a man by the cut of his hair
You can also learn a lot by watching him sitting in the chair
Who he was and who he will be and a liftime full of memories
A parent's pride is fed during moments such as these
