Roots Of My Beliefs

Heavenly beliefs of Jesus and God
Of  guardian angels keeping me from harm
This is the stuff my belief system is made of

Bedtime prayers and Sunday services
Sermons, fellowship and Communion
These are the things that with God I find union

No matter how old or how far I stray
My belief in a merciful God is what keeps me sane
This is the stuff salvation is made of

Salvation, compassion, forgiveness for everyone be they friend or foe
Class, race, nationality, educated or no
This is the stuff Jesus the Christ's lessons were made of

Bombarded by right is wrong and wrong is right
The media reporting on only violence and destruction
This is the stuff hate and fear are made of

So thank you to my family who raised me
And to my friends, past and present, that have helped me see
Just how important my beliefs can be
