Cousin Richard; A Sentimental Musing

Was anybody there?
Did at least one person care?
My drinking was the death of me,
But my laughter and humor were the wealth of me.
What's life without beer to quench the thirst
And laughter to take you into the hereafter?

Was any body there?
Did at least one person care?
I craved the love and affection of a good woman
There were some bad and some good ones
There were maybe I should and maybe I shouldn't ones
But not really a forever after the good times woman.

Was anybody there?
Did at least one person care?
I could be loving and kind
Sarcastic and caustic at the same time
I enjoyed my alcohol buzz
It was a comforting companion if ever there was.

Was anybody there?
Did at least one person care?
My brothers and sister tried to keep me safe sober and sound
I thank them for their efforts of love
But my spirit needed freedom
Sorry I could no longer stick around.

Was anybody there?
Did at least one person care?
I'm free now to laugh with no worries
No longer earthbound, no more in a hurry.
I'm hanging out with family just like a reunion
We're having a blast!
You draw your own conclusions.

Was anybody there?
Did at least one person care?
I can now answer those questions
Without the need of any hesitation
Yes loving friends and family, for me, were always there
And maybe at the time I didn't want to share
The love I have for everyone who showed me that you care.

Slainte!!!!
