So many songbirds
Singing with pure tones and strong
So many songbirds
Seem to be calling each other
Let my heart sing along!
Their happy songs call and echo
From tree to lamppost, to rooftop, to wire
From grassy knoll to thorny bush
Their songs rise up louder and higher!
From predawn to early dusk
Their arias wax triumphant.
Fortissimo to pianissimo
And back to fortissimo sounding like trumpets!
Some calls sound like laughter
Some sound scratchy and screechy
Some sound like a woodwind chorus
With all of their voices blending quite neatly.
From such delicate bodies
A plethora of vocalizations resound
Not one song but many
Enmeshed and intertwined in a rich
Full bodied heavenly sound.
So many songbirds
Singing with pure tones and strong
So many songbirds
Calling to each other,
Let my heart sing along!
