We bought can goods and water and it came
We bought batteries for radios and flashlights and it came
We bought candles, matches and lighters and it came
We prayed to God for everyone's safety and still it came
We boarded up houses and evacuated and it furiously came
Relentless rain and pounding surf again and again it came and it came
Flooding and destruction, the worst in recent memory the storm came
Loss of power, long lines to buy gas at the pumps what a pain and yes it came
First responders and people providing aid and they came
Family and friends talking over the internet for peace of mind, and it came
Pictures of the destruction and people with little or no storm damage offering help, and it came
Food, offers of hot meals, warm showers and a place to stay, and they came
Families helping family members, friends helping friends, strangers helping strangers, and they came
People with an abundance and people with nothing to spare giving to those in need, and they came
Politicians turning tragedy into face time for their presidential candidate of choice, unfortunately they came
Slow inroads into clean up and reconstruction and painfully at a snails pace it came
Time to be grateful for all those who lived through the storm, humanity growing closer in tragedy, it came
To those still with no electricity there will come a time soon when you can say, it came, Thank God it Came!
